I wonder when is Google gonna decide to bring their experimental search user interface at SearchMash over to Google Search, or make SearchMash out of beta. Like other Google sites, SearchMash is powered by AJAX user interface which gives pleasant user experience. If the current Google Search is a one stop search engine site, then SearchMash is a one stop search engine page. It neatly integrates web search, image search, blog search, video search, and even Wikipedia look up into one page.

There are two notable features which I find very useful. First of all, when you click on the link at the bottom of the page to see more search results, instead of replacing the current results "page" with the next "page", SearchMash keeps the current "page" and appends the new "page" underneath. This eliminates the need to reload the results when you wanna go back to them. Once the new results are loaded, it automatically scrolls down and makes the first new result at the top of the page (however it seems like this feature does't work on Internet Explorer 6 on Windows).

The next useful feature is instant video viewing. SearchMash allows you to click on any video from your video search results to load and play the video instantly on the page without loading a new web page. Pretty neat huh? Google is really good at making good use of AJAX to bring the best user experience.

For some reason news search and news group search are not included on SearchMash. That's a little bit disappointing to keep me away from using SearchMash as my primary search site. Hopefully they will not miss these two important search categories when they officially launch it.
